When the health of one of the members of the family is altered, a imbalance takes place that triggers a situation of crisis for all, the work of the health personnel is the one to animate them, to confortar them, to accompany them and mainly to maintain informed them. A communication adapted, effective, that can give a comprehensible information, necessary and atingente for the moment in which is the patient and the family, comprises of a humanized care and approaches the personnel of health to the people. The objective of this study is To know the characteristics the information and communication that receive the family of the patients hospitalized in a Unit of Intensive Cares. Descriptive, cross-sectional, nonprobabilístico study. The group I am conformed by 73 familials. The data were collected by means of an individual interview previous informed consent. The characteristics of the group were following 67% women, a 38% were in the rank of age between 31 and 45 years. The relation of more frequent was son with a 53%, a 58% referred not to have had previous experiences of hospitalization in UCI. The familial identified to the doctor like the professional who received them and from who they obtained the first data. A 30% received information on the disease, a 29% on state of the patient and a 25% on treatment, the relatives differentiate the information received according to the professional. The necessities of information referred by the familial are related to the evolution, prognosis and the disease, a 70% of the relatives refers to have received the information who needed. A 42% declare to need to receive information of the nurse in evolution aspects, state of their relative, as well as to clarify the information given by the doctor. The main suggestions made by the relatives went with relation to the place where it is given, information and to aspects of the waiting room. The information given to the relatives of the patients is an aspect important to value in frequent and continuous form in the services of intensive cares, establishing functions and aspects in which each professional must and can inform. The continuous valuation allows to establish information strategies that facilitate the relative to have an opportune and permanent contact with the professionals, improving of this form the quality of the attention.
