We all know that many valuable drugs of today (e.g. galanthamine, taxol, vinca-alkaloids atropine, ephedrine, tubocurarine, digoxin, reserpine) came into use through the study of local and traditional knowledge. Today it is of even greater importance to document the indigenous knowledge and to contribute to the research about indigenous claims on therapeutics. Improved medications for use in primary health care are an important aspect of ethnopharmacological research. The International Society for Ethnopharmacology is actively involved in further developing this field, which is closely linked to many research interests of members of the GA.
