In recent years an increase in the frequency of obesity, dyslipidemia, arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus has been observed, becoming serious public health problems. These diseases are closely related to lifestyle that favors the increase in caloric intake and sedentary as a form of welfare, so that worldwide public policies are being established to encourage the population to improve the quality of their diet and take a more active life. As part of these policies, in the year 2002 in the Mexican Institute of the Social Security (IMSS) the Integrated Programs of Health (PREVENIMSS) were deployed, service delivery strategy that aims to generate systematic and orderly provision of actions related to the promotion of health, nutrition, prevention, detection and control of diseases, and reproductive health. Specifically, in the process of nutritional surveillance, activities are to assess the nutritional status and make recommendations on diet and physical exercise to prevent overweight and obesity now considered as risk factors for the development of multiple diseases as dyslipidemia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular complications. The challenge of this program is ensure to that all beneficiary population follow preventive activities, which requires the participation of all health staff, who must not only act as educators, but must also be an example in the self-care of health.
