In this issue we are given the opportunity to commemorate together the October 1st. International Day of Older Persons according to the 1990 UN declaration, and the 1999 International Year of Older Persons whose theme was: “Towards a society for all ages”. Since then a significant scientific progress has been made on the aging process. Within this context and in accordance with the complexity of aging and the rights of older persons for enjoying a plentiful life, The National Institute of Geriatrics promotes an holistic research model organized into four lines: • Biology of aging. • Clinical, epidemiological and Health services investigation. • Social factors on aging, and • Gerontechnology development.
